If you are new to soap making at home this is a great recipe for you. There are two ways of making soap – cold process and hot and melt process. The main difference between them is that you have to calculate your oils and lye water in one and in the other you will be using a ready soap base.
Using soap bases is a great and fun way to let your creativity work because you can combine fragrances and colors and just add them to your base. Usually, these bases are made using glycerin.
You will need:
500 grams of soap base
1 ml pink mica
1 ml purple-pink mica
3-5 drops rose oil (Rosa Damascena)
Directions & Tips:
When you use a soap base you should not leave it for a longer time in places where room temperature is below 32°F degrees.
First, cut your soap base in small pieces. That will help them melt faster. After your pieces are even squares let them melt. They usually melt at 120°F.
The melting time is around 10 – 15 min depending on what ingredients are in the base. After you see that all the parts are gone your base is ready.
When you see that your base is clear and hot you can add the rose oil. You can combine it with sandalwood, bergamot or any other combination you like.
In two separate bowls prepare your two pink colors. Pour 1 ml of pink mica and 5 ml of the base and stir until mixture is even. The same is for the purple mica.
Now that you have two nice colors you can start pouring in any silicone mold you like. The ones for baking also work well. Pour the other base on top or if you want you can pour it as a middle layer. If you see any bubbles you can spray with a little rubbing alcohol.
Now that your soap is in the molds you can let it get thicker and in 20 min it should be ready.
