DIY Natural Soap with Rose Oil

The purest rose oil has a distinguishable scent of luxury. It cleanses and detoxifies the skin and has anti-aging properties. It is a great addition to any soap. You can use it for both methods – cold processed or hot and melted.

To make a 700 grams cold process soap with rose oil you will need.

160 grams of distilled water
72 grams of sodium hydroxide (lye/NaOH)

Oils

300 grams of olive oil
175 grams of coconut oil
25 grams of castor oil

Measure carefully the ingredients. Melt, mix and heat the oils. Add carefully the lye to the water. You will see shortly that it gets very hot and steaming. Do not breathe it. Stir well until the lye is dissolved.

For a good mixture, it is important that both of the oils and lye water are with a temperature that does not differ from 5C. A good temperature is 46-48C.

Slowly add your lye water to the oils trying not to make bubbles. When they combine the soap starts to be made due to a process called saponification. With the help of a stick blender start making a homogenous mixture.

Here you can add the rose oil according to your personal preference. Have in mind that rose oil has a strong powerful scent of the Bulgarian Rosa Damascena petals and it is known for his yellow color.

Continue mixing until medium trace. When your mixture is ready you pour it in any silicone mold or special soap mold if you have. You can make your own shapes. Leave the mold for at least 24 hours. And lastly, after taking the soap out it of the molds leave it to cure for 4 – 6 weeks.

Safety Tips:

Since you will be working with lye always remember that you should add the lye to the water. Never the water to lye because it can make an explosive reaction. Use always gloves and eye protection. Keep away from children and pets until the curing period is over.
